Merced County has a lot happening — and we want to tell more of those stories.
Merced County Events is looking for local writers, creators, and community members who want to contribute articles that help people discover events, businesses, organizations, and places worth checking out.
You don’t need to be a “professional writer.” If you know the community and can share helpful, respectful, accurate information — we’d love to hear from you.
What we’re looking for
We’re currently accepting pitches and writers for:
- Local Events (what’s coming up, event recaps, community announcements)
- Food & Restaurants (spotlights, “what to try,” new openings, hidden gems)
- Things To Do (parks, museums, family activities, weekend ideas)
- Youth Sports (clubs, teams, tournaments, local athlete stories)
- Local Business Spotlights (small business interviews and features)
- Yosemite & Mariposa (visitor tips, seasonal updates, local guides)
Article types (examples)
- “Weekend picks” (3–7 things happening)
- Event recap (photos + highlights)
- Business spotlight (short interview + what to know)
- Local guide (“Best parks for kids,” “Best tacos,” “Day trips from Merced”)
- Opinion/column (community-friendly, respectful)
Basic guidelines
- Length: usually 500–1,200 words (shorter is fine if it’s useful)
- Tone: local, helpful, positive (no drama, no hate, no gossip)
- Original content: please don’t copy/paste from other sites
- Photos: your own photos are great; give credit if not yours
- Accuracy: dates, times, addresses, and names matter — double check
What you get
- A byline (your name on the article)
- A short author bio and link to your website/social (if you want)
- Your work featured on MercedCountyEvents.com
(If/when we move to paid contributor spots, we’ll reach out to active writers first.)
