The Merced College Office of Continuing Education offers “Mature Driver Improvement” noncredit classes for community residents over the age of 55.

The instructor, Luis Lara, will show videos and lecture on a variety of subjects that can affect a person’s driving habits and safety.

The class will cover how impairment of visual and audio perceptions affect driving performances and how to compensate for that impairment; the effects of fatigue, medications and alcohol on driving performances; and how to prevent or offset ill effects; updates about rules of the road and equipment, such as seat belts, and efficient driving techniques and related subjects.

Many insurance groups throughout the state support this DMV state-approved course. In order to receive the DMV certificate, students must complete the eight hours.

Upon proof of completion for the class, they may allow an insurance discount.

For more information regarding this discount, interested individuals should contact their insurance representatives.

Call (209) 381-6540 to pre-register. There is no fee to attend the course. Parking fees may apply based on location.
